Organic 70's space age memphis wool carpet

Joana Vasconcelos brought to her Bombom collection for Roche Bobois the same fearless chromatic intelligence that defines her large-scale installations, the conviction that a surface can carry the full weight of artistic intention without sacrificing functionality. Against a deep black ground, a dense composition of looping, curving, interlocking forms tumbles across the hand-tufted wool surface in a palette of extraordinary breadth: cobalt blue, teal, acid yellow, burnt orange, scarlet, burgundy, sage green, sky blue, and warm sand, each form outlined in black with a velvet density that flat printing can never replicate. The silhouette of the carpet is itself irregular, its outer edge following the loosely ovoid logic of the composition, so that the piece reads as an autonomous object in a room rather than a floor covering applied to one. At 40 × 60 cm it functions equally as a floor accent, a wall-mounted artwork, or a surface piece wherever a room needs a reminder that interiors are allowed to be extraordinary.
