Space Copenhagen, the studio founded in Copenhagen by Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard Rützou, practices what they call organic functionalism a design philosophy in which form and purpose are so thoroughly reconciled that the resulting object feels inevitable rather than designed. The Como SC53 is among the purest expressions of that thinking, and this lamp draws directly from its formal economy. A wide, flattened dome shade in high-gloss lacquer its proportions generous relative to the compact conical base below, the silhouette reading as a mushroom cap seen at its most elemental sits atop a tapering body that widens at the base with quiet gravitational authority. Light exits through the narrow gap between shade and stem, casting a warm ring of 2700K illumination onto the surface below that is as much atmosphere as it is light. At just 21 centimetres tall the lamp occupies almost no space, yet its presence in a room is entirely disproportionate to its footprint the quality that separates a well-resolved object from a merely functional one. With up to 11 hours of cordless operation and a replaceable battery, it moves between bedside, dining table, and terrace without compromise.
