Description

Formed as though pulled directly from the ground rather than shaped by human hands, this ceramic vase occupies the rare space between object and geological specimen with breathtaking conviction. Inspired by William Tucker's 2014 Study for Dancer, a work that explores the human form through raw, haptic manipulation of clay and plaster, its low wide-bellied silhouette is alive with a deeply cratered, fissured surface that records every pressure and gesture of its making. The rich burnt terracotta tone shifts from pale dusty ochre at its ridges to deep shadow in its crevices, mapping a landscape of extraordinary tactile complexity that rewards close study. Its irregular open mouth, neither centred nor symmetrical, feels excavated rather than formed, a deliberate surrender to material instinct over geometric precision. At 22 cm this is a grounding, anchoring presence: a piece that slows the room down and returns it to something older and more essential.
