90's bauhaus geometric "dondolo rocking chair"

In 1990 Verner Panton, the Danish architect whose entire career was a sustained argument against the conventional and the expected, designed the Dondolo rocking chair as a meditation on the circle as a complete structural and aesthetic system. This lounge chair pays tribute to that vision with a composition of absolute geometric conviction. Two large polished chrome rings form the lateral frames of the chair, their lower arcs resting on triangular perforated oak rocker bases that anchor the piece to the floor while inviting it to move, a detail of warm natural wood that provides a considered material counterpoint to the industrial brilliance of the chrome. Within the ring structure, circular leather seat and backrest pads are suspended with precision, their disc forms echoing the geometry of the frame in a composition that reads as a Bauhaus exercise in pure circular logic. The rocking motion, generated by the arc of the chrome rings against the oak bases, is as smooth and considered as the visual form that produces it. Available in black, fuchsia, cobalt blue and pure white leather, each colourway transforms the same architectural object into an entirely different room personality.
