Modernist metal folded plane pedestal side table

In the late 1920s Pierre Chareau was designing furniture that treated metal not as a structural material but as a sculptural one, coaxing flat planes into forms of surprising warmth and spatial intelligence. This pedestal side table honours that legacy with a quietly radical proposition of its own: a single square sheet of matte powder-coated metal whose four corners have been folded and curved gently upward and inward, creating a shallow saddle-like concave surface that reads simultaneously as a tray, a sculptural relief and an architectural fragment caught mid-transformation. The tension between the flat central plane and the rising curved corners gives the table a sense of arrested movement, as though the material is still in the process of becoming something. Resting on a slender cylindrical pedestal above a flat elliptical base, the whole composition achieves a remarkable lightness for an object of such material conviction.
