Space age futuristic "cone chair"

In 1958 Verner Panton designed the Cone Chair as a provocation: what if the seat were not a horizontal plane supported by legs but a volume derived entirely from a single geometric form? This swivel chair honours that radical proposition with a composition that takes the concept a step further into the organic, its two sweeping petal panels rising asymmetrically from a narrow upholstered cone to create a form that reads simultaneously as a tulip opening, a heart viewed from the side and an intimate spatial enclosure designed entirely around the act of being held. The taller panel curves to a pointed apex, sheltering the sitter on one side like a wing or a sail, while the shorter panel curves open on the other, framing the deeply padded round seat with a theatrical generosity that makes every moment of sitting feel choreographed.
