In 1968, Verner Panton, the Danish designer who more than anyone else translated the optimism of the Space Age into domestic objects of lasting formal conviction — created the Flowerpot lamp for Louis Poulsen. The form is disarmingly simple and absolutely unforgettable: two hemispheres of equal diameter, one inverted above the other, separated by a slender stem, the whole assembly balanced on a small domed base that echoes the upper globe in miniature. It is a composition of pure geometry that somehow reads as entirely organic, as though it had grown rather than been designed. This lamp draws directly from that lineage, rendering the same essential proposition in a cordless, rechargeable format that Panton himself would surely have embraced — the form was always about freedom, and cordless portability is the logical completion of that idea.
