Avant garde memphis stacked acrylic pendant lamp

In 2005 designers Enrico Franzolini and Vicente García Jiménez created for Foscarini a pendant lamp that took its formal concept from the most violent and generative event in the history of the universe the Big Bang and translated it into an asymmetric explosion of intersecting acrylic planes that captures that primal energy in a suspended, permanent, luminous moment. This pendant lamp honours that conceptual ambition with complete formal conviction. Dozens of rectangular acrylic panels intersect, overlap and project outward in an apparently chaotic but precisely resolved composition, each plane catching the light source within at a different angle and transmitting it differently, some glowing with deep saturated colour, others casting crisp geometric shadows, the gaps between panels releasing sharp lines of concentrated white light that animate the ceiling and walls around it. The result is a chandelier that is never the same object twice, shifting and recomposing itself with every change of viewpoint, every movement in the room and every hour of the day.
